Morphology might sound like a big, fancy word, but it just means the study of word parts—and it can make a huge difference in how our students read, spell, and. Understand new words

If you’re new to teaching morphology, don’t worry! You can start small with simple routines and meaningful practice

Here are 5 easy ways to get started :

1. Start with Common Prefixes and Suffixes: Teach high-utility prefixes and suffixes that students will see again and again. Focus on just a few at a time and use words students already know

2. Use Word Building Activities: Hands-on word building helps students see how word parts fit together to create meaning. Try using magnetic letters, word apps, or word sort activities

3. Make It Fun and Visual: Use visuals, games, and real-life examples to keep lessons engaging. The more students see and use word parts, the more confident they become

4. Connect Morphology to Reading & Writing: Point out word parts in texts and encourage students to use them in their own writing. This builds vocabulary and .comprehension

5. Review and Reinforce Throughout the Week: Spiral review is key! Keep word parts visible in your classroom and practice them in short, intentional bursts
