Mornings in the classroom can feel like a whirlwind—between greetings, attendance, and solving surprise “emergencies,” there’s not always time for a perfectly planned Morning Meeting.
The good news? It doesn’t have to take long.
With just a few 5-minute, game-style activities, you can build community, boost engagement, and set a positive tone for the day—even on the busiest mornings.
And if you really want to save some time, make sure to check out my Morning Meeting Daily Slides (which are pre-made and include a huge choice of greetings, shares, and activities for the school year).
Let’s explore some simple, effective ideas for those busy mornings when time is tight but connection matters most.
5-Minute Morning Meeting Activities
Short on time but still want to start the day with connection and fun? These game-style Morning Meeting activities take five minutes or less and are perfect for busy mornings when you want to keep the energy up without the prep.
1. “Find Someone Who…”
Give students a prompt like “Find someone who has a pet” or “Find someone who likes pizza.” They quietly walk around and try to find a classmate who matches.
Why it works: It gets kids moving and interacting, even if they only find one person!
2. “Mystery Object”
Place a random classroom object in a bag or behind your back. Give clues or let students ask yes/no questions to figure out what it is.
Why it works: Builds critical thinking, teamwork, and excitement!
3. “Emoji Charades”
Act out an emoji (e.g., laughing face, sleepy face, sunglasses emoji) and have students guess which one it is.
Why it works: Kids love emojis, and it’s a great way to encourage expression and creativity.
4. “Air Draw”
Call out a simple object (like “star,” “heart,” or “tree”), and students “draw” it in the air with their finger. You can guess what it is, or they can guess what you draw!
Why it works: No materials needed, and it still taps into creativity, movement, and fun.
5. “This or That Corners”
Designate corners of the room as A and B. Give a “Would You Rather” style choice (“Ice cream or cake?”), and students move to the matching corner.
Why it works: It’s energetic, interactive, and can lead to great follow-up discussions.
