Now the first thing that you may be thinking… what on EARTH is a digital mystery picture?
The most important thing to know: they are a Google Sheets resource that you can use with Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Edmodo, etc.
Next, you need to know how they work.
First, students read a passage.
As students correctly answer reading comprehension questions, a mystery picture appears!
Pixel art is like a digital color by number worksheet.
As kids answer questions, a mystery picture is revealed.
Wrong answer? That part of the picture does not show up.
These are called pixel art because the mystery picture is made up of lots of teeny tiny pixels and is used on a digital device.

These passages are short compared to many reading passages – why?
Because reading comprehension should NOT take up an entire class period to complete.
Or even worse – a student takes the entire class period to read the passage and never even gets to the questions.
These passages are short so that students can complete what they need to complete – the questions.
Shorter passages also help students not get overwhelmed by a large amount of text.
Does the picture not show up correctly?
This tells students to go back and to check their work!
These digital mystery pictures motivate students go back in the text to find the correct answers in order to get their mystery picture revealed correctly.
