How does Back to School BINGO work?
First, pass out a BINGO board to each student (along with a clipboard, or ask students to take out a composition notebook to use something hard to write on).
Students will walk around the room asking a student if they can sign any of the squares that they have done before.
For example, if Shaheena likes baseball, she can sign her name under that square.
If Riley has broken a bone, he can sign his name under that square.
It gets tricky at the end (especially for some of the squares!).
When a student gets 5 boxes in a row, they yell out BINGO!
Students usually get BINGO around the same time, so let students know to KEEP PLAYING if they get a BINGO… the goal of the game is to get the whole class a BINGO!
At the end, go over the answers that students got.
For example, ask, “who can name someone who went to a different country?”
Students will start recognizing each other’s names and begin to make a connection with others.
Remind students to listen to one another’s answers, and they may find someone else that has something in common with them!
Or, if it’s something that they don’t have in common, it’s an excellent question to ask as a conversation starter!
