What are the 3 types of authors purpose?
There are three types of authors purpose that I teach:
- Persuade (text like an editorial, a speech, etc.)
- Inform (text like nonfiction)
- Entertain (text like a fiction book, poem, play, comic book, etc.)
I’m sure you’ve heard it before – but it’s easiest to remember with the acronym PIE!
You can also continuously integrate these author’s purpose concepts throughout your reading lessons all year long.
For example, bring “inform” into your nonfiction text structures lessons.
Speaking of nonfiction text features, make sure to read my blog post on nonfiction text feature lessons HERE!
How do my students complete these color by number worksheets?
Let me tell you all about these color by numbers!
First, students will read text that show various types of authors purpose.
Next, students will identify what type of authors purpose is used in the text (persuade, inform, or entertain).
Using the color written next to the answer that students chose, they will color the picture accordingly!
These are FUN and MOTIVATING!
I mean… who doesn’t want to color while completing a worksheet?!
And students will be motivated to finish because they will want to see how their picture turns out π
