Rights & Responsibilities Picture Books (Amazon Affiliate links)

The Paperboy by Dav Pilky

A boy wakes up to complete his job.

This book magically invokes that feeling of waking up early when it feels like no one else in the world is awake.

This book shows responsibility for a job and commitment.

The boy doesn’t have to wake up and complete his paper route every day = he does it because he has a strong work ethic and it’s the job that he committed to.

It shows the importance of dedication and the rewards of hard work.

Pigsty by Mark Teague

A little boy is told to clean his room… but he does not.

Eventually, pigs take over his room…. since his room now resembles a pigsty.

Why wouldn’t pigs move on it?!

This book exemplifies personal responsibility and the importance of keeping your areas clean and organized.

This is definitely a good one to show students why we need to have personal responsibility and take care of our materials and belongings.

Strega Nona by Tomie de Paola

I’m sure that you have read this one before – it has been a classic for a dang long time!

Big Anthony helps the Italian witch Strega Nona.

Unfortunately, when she leaves the village for a short trip, he tries to take over her magic pot.

You can probably tell that things will go haywire from here πŸ™‚

This book shows the importance of listening to directions and following instructions, perfect for rights & responsibilities!

Tell the Truth, B.B. Wolfe by Judy Sierra

This book is seriously cute.

B.B. Wolfe (of 3 little pigs fame) tells his own spin on the story… and why maybe he is just a misunderstood wolf.

Eventually, he gets called out on his new spin on the story, and he ends up taking responsibility and apologizing.

This book is great to show how we need to take responsibility for our actions.
