Digital Area and Perimeter Games
Looking for area and perimeter games?
Digital games make the PERFECT independent math centers.
Kids are always super engaged when using anything digitally, and it allows you to meet with small groups while they are busy reviewing a concept.
Read below about lots of super fun digital games for area and perimeter that your students will LOVE!
Digital Area and Perimeter Games
Digital Geoboards
Using Geoboards is a great way to make area and perimeter both hands-on and interactive!
I love theΒ idea of Geoboards… but in reality…. they always end up becoming a semi-dangerous game as the kids snap rubber bands at each other.
That’s why I LOVE that free apps exist so that kids can do Geoboards, without the rubberband snapping (sorry, I’m not so fun when it comes to safety).
Geoboard is a great website that I think your students will love!
How can we relate this to area & perimeter?
I have an easy center that you can assign your students!
Give students a list of areas and perimeters to find and create.
After they create their digital Geoboard area & perimeter, then they can record on the list how they made them (the best part? There’s multiple answers!)
For example, if you give students directions that the perimeter must be 12, they could create a shape with the measurements 3x3x3x3.
They’d record this on their piece of paper.
This is a super fun website that works perfectly as a digital area and perimeter game!
Digital pattern blocks
This is a great digital activity specifically for reviewing perimeter!
I love the (free!) website Pattern Shapes by the Math Learning Center.Β
This website has drag-&-drop pattern blocks!
Pattern blocks are another great way to practice area and perimeter.
This digital perimeter game can be done by asking students to make something using pattern blocks (a house, a boat, a bird… whatever!).
Many students love being creative, but I highly recommend giving an optional list of ideas. You don’t want to have a student sitting for 20 minutes “not knowing what to make.”
Anyway, have a stack of graph paper or lined paper that students can grab.
Tell students that each pattern block side = 1 unit.
Students will first make a pattern block design on their computer (you can see in the picture above that I created a house using digital pattern blocks).
They will calculate the perimeter of their pattern block shape, then record it on their graph/lined paper along with how many pattern blocks of each shape they used (ex: 5 squares, 3 triangles, and 2 trapezoids).
Students LOVE doing this activity, I know yours will love it too!

Digital Unifix Cubes
Can you tell that I LOVE using math manipulatives?
I love the website Didax, they have tons of virtual math manipulatives.
Students can use unifix cubes to create shapes, then add up both the area and perimeter.
Have them record their answers either through Google Classroom or on a lined piece of paper (have them write down how many cubes they used as well as the area & perimeter for accountability purposes).

Digital Area & Perimeter for Google Classroom
This digital resource is PERFECT for math centers, small groups, or even whole group!
It makes traditional area and perimeter practice feel like a digital game for area and perimeter!
Students will use Google Slides as an interactive and engaging way to practice area and perimeter.
These are awesome being assigned a few at a time in place of a traditional worksheet.
You could also project this whole group and have students come up to the board to show how to complete various problems.
Some of the perimeter activities include:
- Finding the perimeter of figures using squares
- Creating figures given a specific perimeter
- Finding the perimeter of squares & rectangles
- Finding the perimeter of 6 various polygons
- Finding the missing sides of squares & rectangles
And what about area?
Don’t worry… I got that covered too!
This digital resource includes activities for:
- Finding the area of each figure using squares
- Creating a figure given a specific area
- Finding the area of squares & rectangles

Area & Perimeter Digital Mystery Pictures
These digital mystery pictures are so dang fun.
Have you heard of pixel art before?!
As kids answer questions about area and perimeter, a mystery picture appears!
You know what that means… it’s SELF-CHECKING!
Um, hallelujah, am I right?
This set comes with 5 area and perimeter digital mystery pictures, including:
- Finding the perimeter of shapes made from unit squares
- Finding the area for each shape made from a unit square
- Finding the area for each rectangle
- Finding the perimeter for each rectangle
- Finding the perimeter for each irregularly shaped rectangle
Your kids will seriously ask for more of these. They are an absolute blast.
